Making great wooden stairs the right way

Three months into my stair journey I have learnt some key things. My first learning is, not all stairs are created equal. Stairs that are created to accepted joinery principles, with all treads and risers routed into the side stringers, then glued and wedged together, will stand the test of time without becoming loose and starting to squeak. The cheaper process using glued and stapled profiles, simply don’t have the strength to withstand decades of stairway traffic and will deteriorate over time. At the very least they will become squeaky and annoying, but also with the potential to become unstable and dangerous. I am proud to be associated with Silverdale Stairs, who only produce stairs to the highest standard.
